Surburban Art Guild Nov.6-Nov.25

Suburban Artist Guild

The exhibit will run from Sunday Nov. 6 - Friday Nov. 25 with the reception on Sunday Nov. 6 from 1-3 pm.

The Suburban Artist Guild (“SAG”) is an informal organization that provides a supportive environment for artists, creating 2-dimensional work, in the central New Jersey area. It has been in existence since 1963, and currently focuses on providing artists a forum to exchange artistic ideas, grow in their knowledge of technical, theoretical, and historical aspects of art, and to foster an appreciation of the arts by, and for, the general public.  SAG members exhibit expertise in watercolor, oils, pen/ink and acrylic painting, color pencil, graphite, pastel, and charcoal drawing. Many member artists belong to professional artist organizations.

SAG holds monthly meetings on the second Friday of each month (unless there’s a holiday, then a meeting is the week before or after), from 2-4pm at the East Brunswick Public Library meeting room 3. The meetings include mini-workshops and/or demos of a variety of artist techniques, all presented by experienced artists from around the state.  SAG also organizes local group exhibits, as well as individuals at a local restaurant. For information, contact Selena Palmer at 732 254 3113, or Paula Feifer at 732 238 0800.

Allentown Art Guild

The Allentown Art Guild was formed in 2006 by three local artists. They felt there was a need for an association of professional and non-professional artists. Currently the Guild is comprised of ~20 members from the Allentown and the surrounding areas. The Guild is a non-profit organization and it holds monthly meetings that include workshops, demonstrations and lectures by distinguished artists. The public is invited to attend many of these events since it is the Guild’s goal to encourage art appreciation in our community as well as to encourage artistic growth among its members.  To help encourage young artists in the community, the Guild has sponsored an annual art award of $500 to a graduating Allentown High School senior.

Pictured below is a collaborative community project by the guild members that was on display in the Allentown Library.  This was originally a photograph of the old mill in Allentown that was divided into 27 pieces. Each member took a square and interpreted that square on the piece of canvas provided.
