The
featured artist for the month of August at the Gourgaud Gallery will be Arthur
D. Anderson. For this one-man show, The Gallery will be highlighting three
exhibits of Mr. Anderson’s works, including those from his recent acrylic
abstract series “The Subjectivity of Time”; Watercolors in the English style
collected in “Watercolors Britannia”; and a selection of figurative and
traditional works in acrylic and watercolor.
Arthur Anderson continues a family tradition of fine art dating back a century, when his maternal grandfather Alan Silverman began study at Cooper Union, eventually becoming a prominent sculptor and oil painter and was part of the New Deal's WPA Program. Alan's wife, Anna Silverman (Arthur's grandmother) painted under the name "Vanya," and exhibited at the Whitney Studio Club, later the Whitney Museum of Art.
Anderson has exhibited his work at numerous exhibitions on Long Island, including Long Beach, Southampton and Shelter Island. His works are in collections throughout the U.S., and he has done portrait commissions in California, Florida and Texas.
Arthur studied watercolor with Edgar Whitney and Betty Lou Schlemm, and acrylic painting and portraiture at the Art Students League of New York.
