Vadim Levin has been immersed in the artistic realm since he was a child. He grew up in the family of famous artists – Matvey and Israel Basov and spent many hours in their studios observing and admiring their work and painting next to them. Throughout his numerous years of study, he learned a multitude of techniques, styles and medium. He also gained a strong interest in photography. In 1992 he took a hiatus from his passion, as he immigrated to the United States. Many years later, after established himself and his family in East Brunswick, NJ, he was compelled to create again, as means of coping with his feelings and emotions.
In his most recent works, Vadim has begun experimenting with texture. By building up multiple layers of oil paints, Levin gives three dimensionality to his subjects. This unique manipulation breathes new life into typical subject matter of organic forms and landscape settings. The artist inserts himself into work and makes himself palpable to the viewer through visible brushstrokes. These labor intensive layers show not only the artist’s pedigree brushstroke, but also his amazing understanding and manipulation of color.
The artwork is for sale with 20% of each sale going to support the Cranbury Arts Council and its programs. Cash or a check made out to the Cranbury Arts Council is accepted as payment. See www.cranburyartscouncil.org.
