OPEN CALL 2019 -- GOURGAUD GALLERY

A CHECK FOR $5 MADE OUT TO “CRANBURY ARTS COUNCIL” MUST BE ATTACHED TO APPLICATION FOR ENTRANCE FEE.

It's that time of year again to prepare for another Open Call Exhibit at the Gourgaud Gallery. This is our 10th annual event and the theme this year is “ALIVE-HUMAN, ANIMAL AND PLANT LIFE” The reception will take place on Sunday January 6, 2019, from 1:00-3:00 p.m.

ALIVE-HUMAN, ANIMAL AND PLANT LIFE, may include any art medium that illustrates any form of life in the artwork. The art should include any one or more of the theme either as the main subject or incorporated in the piece or pieces you are submitting.

Any painting, drawing, collage, photography, or other medium, IS ACCEPTABLE. We are limiting the entries to 2-3 pieces per artist. We do our best to make sure everyone has the same chances for exposure. NO MORE THAN 1 ITEM PER PERSON WILL BE ACCEPTED AS NOT FOR SALE.

PLEASE BE ADVISED, ANY WORK THAT IS NOT PROPERLY WIRED FOR HANGING WILL BE REJECTED---if framed, must be in saleable condition (stable, no cracked glass or marred frames)!

The date and time for receipt of work will be Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, 9:00 -10:00 a.m. at the gallery. If weather forecast is threatening a storm, where you may not be able to bring it in on time, leave your work in the back closet, or behind the screen (before Jan.3), and e-mail me to tell me you dropped it off before the date appointed for collection---(work brought in after the appointed time and date will not be accepted). Include the application with your work in clearly marked bags. Each piece should be clearly labeled on the back with name, title and price-please attach your check for $5 with a paper clip to the application. We will notify you of accepted work as soon as possible. Work must be properly wired for hanging. If work is not properly wired for hanging, it will not be accepted.

Provide your email on the application form so that we can be in touch more effectively.

The exhibit will run Sunday January 6 to Friday January 25. The pick up date will be anytime during the day from 9 am to 4 pm on Friday January 25. Work not picked up at that time will be left in the closets for pick up during the week. Download attached application.

UFT PAINTING CLASS EXHIBIT

UFT PAINTING CLASS EXHIBIT-MAY-JUNE 2018
The Gourgaud Gallery will present an exhibit of the New York City United Federation of Teachers Painting Class from the New Jersey outreach chapter. The show will run May 6-June 29, 2018. The reception is May 6, 2018 from 1-3. Various members of the class will participate. 20% of the proceeds will be for the Gourgaud Gallery which provides scholarships and programs for the Arts. We hope to see you at the reception. Light refreshments will be served.

The UFT Painting Class began in 2010 at the Monmouth County Library. We meet for 16 sessions a year, divided into 8 sessions per semester, for a 2-hours. 

Linda Gilbert is the instructor for this class. We have had six major exhibits as a class prior to this current one. We exhibited in 2012 and 2017 at the Manalapan Branch of the Monmouth County Library, and had three exclusive showings at the Gourgaud Gallery in Cranbury, New Jersey. We also participated in Open Call at the Gourgaud Gallery. Several of our students sold paintings at these showings.

The class is presented with various topics, styles and instruction appropriate to their paintings. A general theme is given for the paintings, resulting in various interpretations and styles. At times, we have varied subject matter at each session. The medium taught is Acrylic.

Some students never painted before they came into this group. The progress is extraordinary. The students have truly developed their talents, finding their niche of style.

The United Federation of Teachers runs a retirees program for retired NYC teachers and their spouses. Today over 60,000 retired teachers are members and have the fortune of taking classes at the numerous learning centers located in each of the five boroughs of New York, and outreach programs in New Jersey, Westchester, Long Island, Florida, Arizona and several other states in the country. There are also outreach centers in a few foreign countries.

Meet the Photographers at the
Reception on Sunday April 8 from 1-3 PM

Photos from Cranbury digital Camera Club (CdCC) photographers are on display at the Gourgaud Gallery. The gallery is located at Cranbury Town Hall, 23-A North Main Street (the old schoolhouse)
in Cranbury, NJ from April 8 to April 27. The photos selected by the photographers for the show depict various themes and subject matter. The photographers are from Cranbury, Hightstown, Monroe, West Windsor and various other communities in Central Jersey. Their work has been on display at various Galleries throughout New Jersey. Many of the photographers on display have had their work cited for awards by the NJFCC, PSA and other photography organizations.

The Cranbury digital Camera Club (CdCC) is a non-profit organization that has been in operation for almost 10 years. The organization concentrates on digital photographic techniques and methods. The organization’s goal is to provide an environment where amateurs and professionals can learn from each other to further develop their skills as photographers. Most of the members are from the Central Jersey area. Meetings are held twice each month on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays. The CdCC organization has over 100 members.

The organization provides members with the opportunity to display their photos at various Galleries and Photo Shows. Usually at least one or possibly two shows a year are held for the photographers. Member competitions are held once a month during which the photographers get to present their work to be judged in a positive environment that fosters improvement. Once a month invited guest speakers present various topics about their specialty to enhance the member’s photographic knowledge and methods.

There will be a Meet the Photographers Reception at the Gallery on April 8 from 1-3 pm. Refreshments will be served. The artwork is for sale with 20% of each sale going to support the Cranbury Arts Council and its programs. Cash or a check made out to the Cranbury Arts Council is accepted as payment.

The artists return to the Gourgaud Gallery with many new exciting paintings that they have created. Please come and support this wonderfully talented and important group of artists of the Trenton Community A-Team who share their work every February at the Gourgaud Gallery. 

The Trenton Community A-TEAM supports, develops, and promotes self-taught, local artists because art can be transformative by reframing the artist's connectedness to self and others and by enhancing community pride. Cash or a check made out to the Cranbury Arts Council is accepted as payment, however, Cranbury Arts Council will not charge a commission.
